Voluntary/Paid Work

Volunteers

We are very fortunate to have many people who volunteer to help out in various ways at St. Thomas' School. Due to legislative requirements, it is now mandatory that all volunteers (including parents/legal guardians of St Thomas' students) undergo student protection training.  This includes those people who are required to carry a Blue Card.

Student Protection Training

Before continuing in your volunteer capacity, you must comply with this legislative requirement. In order to facilitate this, we conduct a Volunteer Induction at our school fortnightly. Anyone who wishes to volunteer at our school in classrooms, sporting events, class excursions or at any P&F functions needs to attend this short presentation and be named on the “Volunteer Register” at the conclusion of the training.

Those volunteers who are not parents/legal guardians of St. Thomas’ School students will need to obtain a Blue Card.

The new Education and Care Services National Law (Queensland) Act 2011 was mandated from 1st January 2012. This legislation has impacted on blue card processes for child care business operators, volunteers and paid employees.

If you have any questions about the forms or how to complete application forms, please call the Blue Card Contact Centre on 1800 113 611 (free call) or 3211 6999.

Signing In and Out

Another change of practice resulting from this legislation, is that all volunteers must sign in and out at the office when working in the school. A sign in/out book is located at the reception desk, along with volunteer/visitor lanyards.. Please remember to sign in before moving to other areas of the school.
