90th Celebration News

The events over the past week certainly honoured the 90 year journey of our great school community! It was so very humbling to have all three events held throughout the week, so very well supported. This show of support certainly wasn't lost on Bishop Ken Howell, who was very impressed by the turn out on Sunday, with the church literally overflowing! Bishop Ken used the opportunity during Mass to acknowledge and marvel at the pioneering spirit, and extraordinary leadership provided to our community, by the Sisters of the Good Samaritan. He spoke of their enormous contributions in hard times, and the values they instilled laying a foundation that has provided the conditions for our school to flourish for the past 90 years.

As part of the Mass, Bishop Ken blessed our newest Sacred Space, Samaritan Place. Samaritan Place contains a series of striking timber posts, with each post carrying a Good Sams value carved into beautiful sheets of copper; COMPASSION, NEIGHBOUR, LOVE, FORGIVENESS & HUMILITY. Our vision was to create a special space within our school that captures, promotes and honours these beautiful values. Since the space was created as part of our refurbishment earlier this year, it's been used by classes for meditation, reflection, art and prayer; and also by parents, both before and after school. Most importantly, Samaritan Place has become the focal point upon entering our school via our main entrance, clearly visible to one and all.

I take this opportunity to acknowledge and thank the P & F for contributing some funding towards this very special project, making it possible to complete the install just in time for our 90th celebrations!

After Mass, we gathered for Morning Tea which was so generously provided by our current families. Our visitors took the opportunity to take a trip down memory lane, visiting many spaces around the school. The Memorabilia Display, located in The Noble Tree Centre, was a very popular stop along the way. Put together over many, many hours with meticulous attention to detail, the display captured some wonderful photos and bits of history from each decade. Our visitors also took the opportunity to explore the 90th Anniversary Learning Projects put together by each year level.

Equally successful was last Friday evening's 'Soiree Under the Stars'. It was indeed a great night of community connection, awesome ambience and marvelous music! Among the festivities of the evening, the crowd gathered to view a special 90th tribute movie on the 'big screen', along with the  cutting of the 90th cake.

As our visitors meandered around the school on Sunday, I was consistently stopped with the sharing of congratulations, appreciation and affirmations for our 90th Anniversary efforts. Once again I take this opportunity to thank and acknowledge the team of staff and parents, who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make the magic happen. They all contributed enormous time and energy into the preparations for our special events.
